Group speaks out against double delivery times
Date: 04 July 2007
The Brewery Logistics Group (BLG) has spoken out against the decision by London Councils to double delivery times by logistics firms in the capital, RoadTransport.com reports.
The group's chairman Mike Bracey said that starting a 40-minute rule at 11:00am is a "ludicrous" idea, and should be moved to the afternoon.
His comments come after the Freight Transport Association said it had secured agreements to increase the loading and unloading times for LGVs to at least 40 minutes in all of London's boroughs.
This doubles the previous 20 minute time and means that continuous loading and unloading of haulage loads can take place for up to 40 minutes.
Bracey noted that freight operators will still need to appeal against penalty charge notices if they think they can prove they were delivering lawfully, and that the whole process relies too much on parking attendants.
"London Councils don't think things through," he said. "They really get up my nose. It's going to be more work and administration to prove we were delivering."
